What I’m doing now

Some fun tech stuff

At the moment I am working on this site. I'm deeply inspired by Derek Sivers site. This site was actually built using his article on tech independence.

Health and fitness

My health and fitness has also been a major priority for me for all of 2024. It's been going really well so I'm going to keep pushing it in 2025. I had a goal to be able to do some pull-ups. I've never been able to do more then 1 or 2. I recently did 4, so I'm thinking about shooting for 10 by June 2025. I also want to get my bench press up to 225lbs. Why June? It's somewhat arbitrary. I think it just gives me enough runway to succeed, and my wedding anniversary is in June. Nothing wrong with looking hot for your wife. I'm actually looking forward to getting my blood work done in January when I go for my annual physical.

I found a couple of good fitness influencers I think are really worth following. These are my Go-to:

I've also been using fitbod. I found it a couple of years ago. At the time I thought it would help me plan some at home workouts where at had limited equipment. It may have even been during the pandemic. It did, but it's much more effective to use it with a gym membership. Like any AI these days it takes a little bit of care and feeding, but it's nice to have a workout that's 95% planned for me when I wake up in the morning. I'll usually change one or two things and then I'm off to the races.

This has been a huge unlock for me because for things I'm really trying to focus on my mantra has been to "make it easy". I'm focusing a lot on removing friction. This app does exactly that, and therefore increases the likelihood I'll actually workout.

Years ago I bought my wife a spin bike for Christmas. This was before Peloton or anything like that existed, but it was something she was really in to, and having some things to workout with at home is another one of those "reduce friction" things. In any case, the bike itself is not a Peloton, but I bought a phone mount for the handle bars and a Peloton subscription, so it works just as well. I don't have all the fancy metrics, but for simple zone 2 cardio it works just fine.

Much of my fitness journey was inspired by Dr. Attia's book Outlive.

Personal and Family

At the end of the last school year last year I volunteered to be the treasurer of the PTA for my kids school. It's a one year term from July 2024 to June 2025.
